Lomi haus

Lomi Haus
About three weeks ago after having a 30 minute jog I roam around the town of Baras, Rizal to look for mami for breakfast but did not find any. While on my way home I stumbled upon this unnamed panciteria. where men flocked around. Curious enough I parked near the place and inquired what they serve, according to one customer they serve no other than lomi. The last time I’ve eaten lomi was way back 2 years ago when I was still working in batangas. I ordered one bowl of lomi but I still have to wait for few minutes.

Lomi
I don’t know how lomi is eaten so I just followed what others are doing while waiting for it to be served. They crashed 3 chilli peppers and 3 calamansi on a saucer. After few minutes of waiting lomi was served hot. Lomi is a Chinese-Filipino dish made of thick egg-noodle mixed with small pieces of meat, usually pork or chicken, and pork liver with other seasonings and kikiam or meatballs. This is best eaten while steaming hot. Price is 25 pesos.

moments...

Moments...

If I were to trace back to the roots of my family none of them that I know of are into photography. So I don’t why am into this and now am addicted to it. Is it because of the strong influence of online sharing of photos and the availability of digital cameras that is easy to use and learn or it’s my way of de-stressing myself from the stressful work that I have working on nocturnal hours till sun up. I would say those are the reasons why I like photography but how far will this addiction goes? That I don’t know. I even have a plan of grabbing myself a laptop computer next month as an additional gadget for this hobby. From being an engineer to a call center agent to subject matter eng eng to a photographer? Hhmmmm.. Hehe.. Well wherever this hobby leads me, hope this will bring good to me and for a better future.

Photo above is another stolen shot that was taken few months ago at the fish port of Tanay Rizal. This child was waiting for her brothers to finish swimming at the lake. I like taking candid shots for it shows the ordinary moment extra ordinary and it shows the reality within each one of us.

i've been browsing through the photos that i have in my computer this weekend and i have found my macro shots captured few months ago. there were a few of these capture that were posted on my flickr account which is still a free version coz am not yet sure of upgrading to the pro version, but i have my multiply account that contains more but of lower quality. well, for this shot this was taken at midnight right after the rain coz i can't sleep due to the nature of my work that i work on nocturnal hours. i thought of having photo shot at the garden with my macro filter and a softbox for lighting.

mukha

This is a photo of a face engraved on main door of San Agustin Church in Intramuros Manila. This was taken during the photo walk with friends. There was an ongoing mass during that time when we visited this church and so we prayed before taking in shots. I'm not sure if the faces on wooden door were faces of the saints but there were a number them.

Kalag-kalag

a-01

All Souls day, “Kalag-kalag” in my dialect, is the day of the year where we Filipinos pay a visit to honor the past relatives. Why “Kalag-kalag”? It because “Kalag” in Cebuano means soul. I have asked some of officemate on how they celebrate the All Souls day and what they usually do is they visit their past relatives in the cemetery to pray and light candles and sometimes they bring food because it is one of the occasions where they get together with other relatives. And back on their home they do nothing. But as a family tradition way back home in Negros it’s different. During these days we usually cook “biko”, “suman” or “ibus” in Cebuano, and I forgot the name of the other one but its colored yellow with beans and chicken and other ingredients. We offer these rice cakes together with soft drinks, water, cigarettes, tobacco and brandy on an altar and these foods stayed overnight with candles. And what do with these foods the following day? We eat them.. .

And when one member of the family pays a visit a past relative in the cemetery, before entering the vicinity of the house we throw ashes into that person to drive away any bad spirits that might have come along. So this is how my family celebrate “kalag-kalag”. I think its not only us who celebrate this way but some Cebuano does.

famy

Bathing in the strong and cold current of the river is really a lot of fun. The water flows from the falls way up the stream. It’s having like a massage from a spa bathing through the current.

a-13

Drinking session along the river. Since we have no ice cubes, we have the brandy and juice immersed in the river to have it cold.

Buruwisan falls from a far. To the right side is the way to the Old Buruwisan falls and to the left is the… I forgot the name falls ( hehehe).. can somebody tell me what is the name of the falls?

a-28

The second day we headed to Buruwisan falls.
The way to Buruwisan falls is so steep and that you have to face back and grasp on the stones and roots to get your way to the falls.

sorbetes...

a-3

mamang sorbetero in UP Diliman
sweet sorbetes, also called dirty ice cream. i wonder why it is called dirty ice cream, is it because they way it is made? could somebody plesase tell me why? anyway it's been a long time since i've eaten sorbetes. i remember in my childhood that me and my brother would run out of the house with big cups where we want the ice be so that we can ask for free scoops from mamang sorbetero. well not just me and my brother enjoyed the ice cream but also our father.
sorbetes is part of anyone's childhood, so it's nice to see that like this here in the metro. hope people in this business will continue this and children and those children at heart would continue to patronized sorbetes.
